Technology is the single largest source of highly skilled migrant permits in the Netherlands, and the easiest sector in which to clear the salary criterion. Product companies, scale-ups and IT consultancies all sponsor, and many run their entire working day in English.
Where these employers are
The Amsterdam metropolitan area concentrates product companies and scale-ups; Eindhoven and the Brainport region concentrate embedded, semiconductor and hardware software; Utrecht and Rotterdam hold a large share of enterprise IT consultancies and in-house engineering teams at banks, insurers and logistics groups.
Roles that typically qualify
Backend, frontend and full-stack engineers, platform and site reliability engineers, data engineers and analysts, machine learning engineers, security engineers, product managers and technical product owners.
What recognised sponsor status does and does not mean
A recognised sponsor is an organisation the IND has admitted to its register, which allows it to apply for a highly skilled migrant permit on your behalf under the fast procedure. It is a permission the employer holds, not a promise it makes. An employer on this list may have no vacancies, may not hire outside the EU, and may still decline to sponsor a particular hire.
Mid-market IT consultancies are recognised sponsors but often prefer candidates already living in the EU, because a client engagement cannot wait for a permit. Ask about start-date flexibility early in the process.
The salary you would need to clear in 2026
The highly skilled migrant criterion is a gross monthly salary, excluding the 8% holiday allowance, and it does not vary by sector — the same figure applies whether you join a it, software & technology employer or any other recognised sponsor.
